activ8-3D Showcase Interactive 3D Hologram Display For Sony Ericsson And O2

activ8-3D, one of the UK’s leading providers of holographic projection and holographic display solutions, launched the world’s first touch screen interactive 3d-holopod hologram display system in Dublin.

activ8-3D installed a touch screen system which, when interacted with, changed the holographic display.

The unique hologram system is a twelve month installation at the O2 arena, Dublin, as part of a Sony Ericsson exhibition stand. The system was used to beam
3D holograms of Sony Ericsson’s five ‘dancing monster’ characters, each of which was individually designed and customised with its own music theme, soundtrack and dance moves.

One of the key features to the system, was it's ability to send messages to the visitor's mobile phones via Bluetooth technology. This allowed for the visitors to the exhibition stand to walk away with a symbol of the Sony Ericsson brand.

Ryan James, from the firm which beamed
holographic messages into the Big Brother house earlier this year, said, “The activ8-3D team was proud and delighted to showcase the interactive 3D holopod. The system was certainly popular with visitors at the exhibition and was also a fantastic promotional tool for Sony Ericsson. The possibilities with this system are endless – imagine having a 3D holographic menu at a restaurant or a hologram information stand at a theme park or shopping complex.”

“Our wide range of products really are at the forefront when it comes to the provision of successful business and promotional tools. The
interactive 3D holopod is also ideal for retail stores and events where companies are trying to attract new customers with an eye catching, engaging hologram display.”

Invitation To Holographic Spectacular In London October 5th

activ8-3D are hosting a ground breaking event as, for the first time in the world, activ8-3D, in partnership with Soft Kinetic, will demonstrate three dimensional holographic gesture recognition. This exclusive event is being held in London on the evening of 5th October 2009 and is strictly limited to one hundred and fifty guests.

Simon Humphreys, from
activ8-3D who offer hologram projection and 3D holographic displays, said, “Many people will have seen the blockbuster movie Minority Report starring Tom Cruise.  The film features several sequences where images are moved across screens by the movements of the user's hand – not even touching the display - and we are delighted to be able to demonstrate this technology – in true Minority Report style, as 3D holograms – at our exclusive event in London on 5th October.”

In addition to 3D holographic gesture recognition, activ8-3D, the leading suppliers of all
holographic projector services, will be showcasing their motion capture hologram characters that will be interacting live with the audience.  You will be able to experience first-hand how you can bring stunning visual effects, interaction and laughter to your event, presentation or display using a holographic projector.

Mr Humphreys added, “Our aim is both to entertain the audience and to show them how powerful a presentation with
holographic projection technology can be.  You are sure to be amazed by being able to hold a conversation with Kobe the 3D hologram monkey or Paddy the holographic frog!”

activ8-3D: Ciba Vision Optician Exhibition

Using the 3D-live motion capture system, activ8-3D created a highly entertaining, crowd pleasing event for Ciba Vision at the optician exhibition held at the G-MEX centre in Manchester, April 2009.

The display consisted of two 50 inch plasma screens aligned vertically. A specially designed life sized 3D character enticed, welcomed and bantered with visitors to the Ciba Vision exhibition stand.

The incredible technology of the motion capture system allowed a behind the scenes actor to control the 3D character's movement using a specially designed motion capture suit. The actor/character's voice was broadcaster to the audience via a simple microphone and speaker system.

Via a live video feed and microphone, the behind the scenes actor could see and hear the audience, allowing for hilarious and often head scratching interaction, as the audience had no idea how a 3D cartoon boy could hold a conversation with them!

The event in Manchester was a great triumph for both activ8-3D and Ciba Vision. The 3D character display enticed and captivated many potential clients, bringing much laughter and enjoyment to the exhibition.

Create Virtual Holograms Using 3D Modelling Software

A talented 3D animator, armed with 3D modelling software such as Autodesk's Maya or 3ds Max has the power to create some truly stunning visual effects. Although these 3D images can look incredible on a TV screen or wall projection, the technology now exists to bring such 3D graphics to the next level – holographic projection.

Using the basic principle of Pepper's Ghost technology, 3D images can be projected as holographic visual illusions. Pepper's Ghost technology involves a specifically aligned piece of transparent film or glass. A reflection of a person or item is displayed onto the transparent surface using special lighting effects. The physical person or item is hidden from audience view, only the reflection onto the transparent surface is visible. As part of the reflection is captured by the transparent surface and part of the reflection passes through it, the appearance is of a ghost-like transparent floating object.

Using the latest technologies and equipment, including HD projectors, media players, 3D modelling software and specially chemically treated transparent film, it is possible to create 3D holographic images. Unlike the original Pepper's Ghost system, this new-age display creates depth illusion. Depth illusion is created by not only projecting an image onto a transparent film, but also onto a flat surface behind the film. The 3D images can appear to float between the space, creating a stunning visual display.

3D modelling software and hologram projection displays go hand in hand. 3D artists can showcase their work in a rarely before seen visual display which complements and enhances such media in a truly stunning fashion.

Companies often approach holographic projection specialists looking to display and advertise their product as a 3D hologram. With 3D modelling acting as the content, a storyboard for such a display is only limited by imagination (and budget!). Products can be recreated in 3D, performing an endless range of animations and mind blowing special effects, with 3D modelling software at the heart of the display.

As hologram projection technology is on the rise (recently featured on UK channel 4's Big Brother) there are upcoming job opportunities available for 3D animators looking to work in this field. This industry is creating a whole new field for 3D animators to expand into.

Examples of such 3D holographic projections using 3D modelling can be seen online at activ8-3d.co.uk. Their website showcases previous holographic projection projects such as a 12 meter wide by 4 meter high hologram display for BMW in South Africa. Other examples include a Coco Cola hologram presentation in Prague and the Big Brother house holograms.

3D hologram media is obliviously difficult to grasp from a 2D computer monitor or television. A live display of 3D hologram projection using 3D graphics can be seen at The Movieum of London Museum, located in Westminster.. Anyone interested to learn more about this technology should arrange a free demo via the activ8-3D website. Animators are more than welcome to bring their 3D modelling files to the museum, where they can see their work come to life as a 3D holographic projection.

3D Holographic Projection - The Future of Advertising?

With many of the latest big budget cinema releases being available in 3D, and everyone talking about the 3D future of television, many eyes are starting to focus on 3D hologram projections...without the glasses!

Where does this technology originate from?

3D holographic projection technology is loosely based on an illusionary technique called "Peppers Ghost", and was first used in Victorian theatres across London in the 1860s. Pepper's Ghost was typically used to create ghost-like figures on stage. Hidden from the audience's view, an actor dressed in a ghostly costume would stand facing an angled plate of glass. The audience would be able to see the glass, but not the actor directly. Specifically angled lighting would reflect the actor's image into the plate of glass, a transparent ghost like reflection would appear in front of the audience. Cutting or fading the lighting could also add to the ghostly effect.

How is this technology used today?

With the use of the latest HD projectors, CGI animation, specialist HD film techniques and special effects created in post production, Pepper's Ghost technology has been upgraded to the 21st century. Instead of a real object or person's reflection appearing on a plate of glass, high definition video and CGI animation is beamed directly onto a specially designed, chemically treated transparent film via a high power HD projector. Although much more expensive, this modern approach results in a much clearer, believable hologram projection.

What kind of images can be projected as holograms?

Due to the modern approach of projecting CGI animations and pre-recorded footage, almost anything is possible. The "blank canvas" approach is often adopted, creating a storyboard only limited by imagination. The storyboard can then be handed over to a CGI animation team who can make it come to life using the latest 3D software such as Maya or 3ds-Max.

Real people can be filmed giving a speech, dance or presentation for example, and then be projected as 3D holograms. Holographic special effects can be added in post production to make a life-like person beam into the room, Star Trek style, or have their product appear and spin above their head at the click of their fingers.

Who have used 3D Holographic projections and why?

In August 2009, Endemol, the producers of the famous reality TV show Big Brother, working together with activ8-3D holographic projections, beamed housemates' friends and families into the house to deliver messages of support and encouragement. The messages were pre-recoded using HD cameras and specifically angled lighting. A stage was rigged inside the Big Brother house task room, compiling of a HD projector, media player, lighting, and audio equipment. Each housemate entered the room in turn and took a seat in front of the stage. On cue, the housemate's family member or friend was beamed into the stage before delving their message. Although the hologram displays were difficult to judge on 2D television screens, the event was hailed as a great success, evoking brilliant reactions from the housemates which made for great TV.

"Any other screen message on video isn't a touch on that. They are in front of you - none of this flat screen or plasma screen - they are really there." exclaimed David.

"It's lovely. It's like you wanna touch it. I can't believe it. I'm shaking," replied Lisa.

In January 2009 Coco-Cola gave a sales conference presentation in Prague for over 800 people. Senior directors of the company were beamed into the stage as 3D holograms before giving a presentation about how the Coco-Cola brand has evolved over the years. The content of the presentation was also in the form of 3D holographic projections. The centre piece was a giant 3D hologram Coco-Cola branded spinning clock, representing the progression of time. A showcase of previous Coco-Cola bottles, logos, and labels amongst other objects were also projected as 3D holograms to create Prague's first 3D holographic projection display.

What range of sizes can the holographic projections be displayed in?

This technology has been known to scale down to as small as a ten inch hologram display. The smaller range of holographic display units, ranging from ten inches to television sized monitors are predominantly used for retail, exhibitions and point of sale. Famous brand companies such as Diesel, have used this type of holographic display in their shop windows.

One of the largest holographic projections to date was in South Africa in 2007. A holographic projection screen, 12 metres wide, by 4 meters high stretched across a stage in front of 700 BMW officials, celebrating the launch of the latest X6 model. By increasing the size of the stage and number of projectors, there is no limit to the maximum size of the holographic projection displays.

Which other technologies are being used together with 3D hologram projections?

activ8-3D, the London based holographic projection specialists, have recently developed motion capture systems to couple 3D holographic projections. Motion capture systems are far from a new technology. An actor wearing a motion capture suit can have his/her movements picked up via various sensors. These movements can then be played back in real time onto a screen in the form of an animated character. Working with hologram display technology, these characters can become life size 3D holographic animated characters, both technologies working together perfectly to complement each other.

Hologram projection displays have also recently seen advances in audience interactivity. Using a wireless remote control, the holographic projections can be moved around the stage, rotated on their x and y axis, and can even be programmed to start or stop an animation on the click of a button.

What is the future of 3D holographic projection?

3D holographic projection technology clearly has a big future ahead. As this audio visual display continues to get high profile credibility, we are likely to see more companies advertising their products or marketing their business in this way. Whether it be large scale, big budget product launches or smaller retail POS systems, they are likely to become a common feature in the advertising world.

Where can I see an example of this technology?

A 3D holographic projection demonstration can be seen at The Movieum of London Museum, located in Westminster, England. The company behind it, activ8-3D holographic projection, are showcasing their large scale show and event holographic display, their medium and small size exhibition and retail hologram displays, as well as motion capture and interactive systems. Beam Me In Big Brother!

Emotions were flying high among housemates in Big Brother when science fiction met heart-wrenching messages from home in last night’s show. The tearful contestants saw their friends and families beamed into the room as 3D holograms to send their words of love and support.

Lisa was first to see her hologram message which came from her mum Maureen and her auntie Margaret. The identical twins joyfully told Lisa her brother is expecting another baby due on her birthday in February. She said: “It’s so lovely – it’s like you want to touch them.”

David cried and covered his face when he watched the holographic messages from his auntie Lindsey and best friend Emma.

The Yorkshire-man said: “That was amazing, such a good feeling. “Any other screen message on video isn’t a touch on that. They are in front of you – none of this flat screen or plasma screen – they are really there.”

But perhaps the most tear jerking moment of the programme was when housemate Charlie watched his life-like message from home. His mother has been in a coma for the last six months and his father, also Charlie, appeared before him to say she has shown signs of getting better.

The blurry-eyed contestant wept as his dad said: “It’s been fantastic to see you living your dream.”

London based activ8-3D were responsible for the housemates’ holographic messages from home.

Marketing manager Ryan James said: “It was really fantastic and rewarding to see the contestants’ reactions to the holograms. It felt amazing to be able to give them something so meaningful and personal because they’re obviously missing their families very much.”

Siavash was shaking when he saw his mum and cousin as holograms, He said: “What the hell was that? “I did not hear any of it – I was just in shock. It was really weird, it’s like they are actually there.”

3D Holographic Projection FAQ from activ8-3D

As most industries fail to make those all important sales and customer expectation rises accordingly, the 21st century product launch requires focus and originality, combined with drive and ambition. Now activ8-3D’s Simon Humphreys is highlighting how global brands are leveraging holographic technology and how to reap the rewards...

What sort of firms are using holographic displays at their product launches, is it a new concept and what benefits will it give me as a company owner?

Here at activ8-3D we have provided holographic projections at shows for Cadbury’s, Coca-Cola, BMW and The Royal Academy of Arts. Many of the global brands are using this unique marketing tool and it provides many brands with the ‘edge’ that may have previously been absent from their existing marketing and PR campaigns. As the credit crunch continues, customers are reluctant to part with their hard earned cash and offering that wow factor to the consumer has never been more important. Holographic display is always warmly received by visitors to a product launch offering them with a talking point way after the event has ended, and although holographics is far from a new concept, it is growing in popularity.

I have a product launch coming up for a new brand of perfume, how do the team at activ8-3D plan for an event to make sure that it runs like clockwork?

Our specialist team will visit the proposed venue way in advance to build a picture of where the correct audience viewing angles should be, get a feel for the size of the room and of course the layout. Once this picture has been built, we will then create an AutoCAD drawing of the set-up required. If need be, our team are also on hand at the actual event either project managing the operation, or working seamlessly within your event management team.

I have been hearing a lot in the media about live interactive 3D shows, how do these work and work situations do these holographic displays work best?

Live interactive shows are great because, they really do offer something a little bit different. The process involves using an actor in a motion capture suit. The actor will move around and have his movements picked up in real time and projected onto the stage in the form of a giant character or animal. At these shows we see audience members literally staring with their mouths open in disbelief at what can be achieved and many of the global brands we have worked with have had huge success with this form of holographic display. We can create the perfect storyboard for your product, and we can incorporate full live stage routines, music, dance and the characters can even interact with real people on stage. Using live interactive shows can really help to create a brand identity for a firm, and I would certainly promote it as a worthy investment for firms who have perhaps seen decreased sales in recent months.

Is it possible to have a permanent holographic display installed?

With our partner RMA, we design, manufacture and install large-scale permanent installations to tourist and visitor attractions worldwide. We also work with museums and art galleries too, in the past we have installed displays at Cadbury’s World in
Birmingham, and the Royal Academy of Arts in Piccadilly, London.

activ8-3D Forms Partnership With Animazoo Live

activ8-3D are celebrating a newly formed partnership with Animazoo Live, the holographic specialists behind Animazoo and Animalive, responsible for bringing motion capture holographic character projections to life.

The project involves
activ8-3D and Animazoo live offering an innovation in event entertainment and marketing strategies, where an actor’s movements and speech are picked up by a motion capture suit, which are then projected in real time as 3D holograms in the form of 3D characters. The actor is hidden from audience view, but the actor can see and hear the audience via a video link, enabling real time interactions. The audience is left baffled wondering how a giant 3D holographic character can hold a conversation, or comment on what they are wearing!

activ8-3D’s executive director, Simon Humphreys, dubbed the move as an ‘exciting new partnership’, he said, “Our new partnership with Animazoo Live has extended the boundaries of the services we can offer to new heights!”

activ8-3D first worked with animazoo live at The Movieum of London's first anniversary party. A giant 3D holographic frog was projected as part of activ8-3D's 3D-holoshow. The frog's tongue-and-cheek humour had the audience in stitches. This partnership’s debut was a great success, drawing in huge crowds eager to chat with the giant 3D holographic frog!

The new partnership offers a wide range of interactive 3D characters, from cute friendly animals to intimidating mechanical robots. Bespoke character design is also offered, opening up the possibility of 3D interactive holographic characters catered for your event or exhibition.

Based on an actor wearing fibre optic sensing devices that capture highly accurate data on full body and head movements, the motion capture system uniquely incorporates data gloves, giving seamless, real time data transfer of intricate hand movements with stunningly integrated effect.

Facial and voice capture is achieved using phonetic driven real time voice capture. This eliminates lip-sync issues and provides full facial expressions and movement, making the
holographic display opportunities endless.

Mr Humphreys added, “This partnership is a big thing for us all here at
activ8-3D, this revolutionary system is set to pave the way at live events, it can be utilised at sporting events or even gala dinners, where the virtual characters could be used to meet and greet your guests.”

activ8-3D Create Holographic Success At Movieum’s First Anniversary Bash

Holographic communications agency activ8-3D entertained the crowds with spectacular results at The Movieum of London’s first anniversary bash last Thursday, with many dubbing their main holographic projection as ‘the best 3D-technology they’d ever seen’.

Simon Humphreys, from activ8-3D who offer hologram projection and 3D holographic displays, said, “The event attracted over 750 people and was an unprecedented success for us all here at activ8-3D. Our 3D-holoshow was a big hit with the audience, as was our main project on the night, a live interactive 3D show; an actor in a motion capture suit had all of his movements and speech picked up in real time, instantly being projected to the audience in the form of a giant 3D-frog! The assembled masses were both intrigued and also mesmerised, so I guess we delivered the desired WOW effect!”

The event was attended by many high profile guests, including Pete Waterman, Chelsea owner, Roman Abramovich, Jeff Wayne (War of the Worlds), and the band Hard-Fi. The event once again proved that activ8-3D can successfully use holographic projection as an entertainment art form, as well as the more traditional exhibition and marketing events.

Anthony Daniels who played the part of C3PO in Star Wars films, was filmed a few weeks before and activ8-3D transformed Anthony into a 3D-video hologram which was shown for the first at the Movieum party, it was a huge success. Anthony said “It’s very clever stuff that activ8-3D do, and I was very impressed and amazed to see myself as a 3D-video hologram. I look forward to working with activ8-3D again, and perhaps bringing C3PO back to life as a live 3D-interactive character like I’ve seen tonight.”

34 year-old Kate Carlisle attended the evening’s festivities, she said, “The holographic projection by activ8-3D was truly breathtaking, I have never seen anything like it! For me, it was the highlight of the evening and after spending the night mingling with guest’s, it became clear that the holographic projection was the success story of the night.”

Mr Humphreys, whose firm have created expert hologram projections for world famous brands including Coca Cola, Royal Academy of Arts and BMW, added, “As a direct result of this event we expanded our existing client base and highlighted the great entertainment capabilities that can be achieved with holographic display. The event also enabled us to demonstrate some of our 3D-holoshows, 3D-holopods, and 3D-holocubes, displaying highlights of our most successful projects over the years. These demonstrations are available free of charge to prospective clients, who are more than welcome to come and chat about what activ8-3D can offer their business. ”

After the success of The Movieum anniversary party, activ8-3D are now planning a party of their own in the very same location, set to include 3D-holocube, 3D-holopod, and of course, 3D-holoshow demonstrations.

activ8-3D’s Mr Humphreys added, “Our very own party is set to be a spectacular event, but the date is still to be confirmed, anyone interested in the forthcoming party should pay regular visits to our website at www.activ8-3d.co.uk. Or drop us an email to info@activ8-3d.com.”

activ8-3D Take To The Capital This Spring With Movie Mayhem

Holographic communications agency activ8-3D is taking the capital by storm this month by opening their brand new offices and demo studio at The County Hall in Westminster. Dubbed as an ‘exciting new partnership’ by activ8-3D’s executive director, Simon Humphrey’s, the new demo studio at The Movieum of London, features the very latest in 3D-video holographic systems.

Simon Humphrey’s, from the company who offer hologram projection and 3D displays, said, “The exhibition at The Movieum was developed by a movie prop enthusiast, who owns props from iconic films of our time including James Bond and Star Wars. He wanted something innovative and awe inspiring to entertain the crowds with and using this brief, we created a huge 3D projection using the voice of Anthony Daniels, the voice of C3PO in the Star Wars films, who welcomes audiences to the exhibition.”

Prospective clients visiting the exhibition can also receive demonstrations on demand from the team at activ8-3D on both their holoshow and holocube technology, part of the appeal associated with setting up camp in the UK’s capital.

Mr Humphrey’s added, “We decided to set up camp at The County Hall in
Westminster in an attempt to widen our existing client base and bring our services to companies in the capital. Based just a short distance from Waterloo station, there really was no better location in which to showcase our latest 3D displays and we have been eagerly anticipating this expansion for a few months now.”

Set to exhibit at The Movieum’s first anniversary party on March 12, the team at activ8-3D are gearing up to entertain high profile executives and
VIP guests including Sir Paul McCartney, with their spectacular Anthony Daniels 3D projection.

Activ8-3D Celebrate ‘Success’ Of Coca Cola Project in Czech Republic

Holographic communications agency activ8-3D is celebrating the success of their latest 3D-event with world soft drinks leader, Coca-Cola. Working in collaboration with global agency McCann Erickson, activ8-3D is the first ever company to bring 3D-video holographic projection to the Czech Republic.

Executed at the end of January in Prague, the project saw activ8-3D delivering a truly spectacular 3D display to over 800 senior executives in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia on behalf of Coca Cola.

activ8-3D’s Executive Director, Simon Humphreys, said, “Coca Cola’s production agency worked very closely with us all here at activ8 and using our AutoCAD drawings, a massive stage was created measuring a staggering 25m wide, 10m deep, and 8m high. The show itself left the audience in total awe, and successfully tracked the world famous brand throughout the ages, from its very early days being sold in local pharmacies, to becoming one of the world’s truly iconic brands, and the undisputed world leader in soft drinks.”

Filmed in full HD and on location in a studio in Bratislava, the holographic images created portrayed senior executives of the Coca-Cola Company ‘beamed-in’ as a virtual 3D-video holograms to deliver keynote speeches and power-point presentations. The cutting edge 3D-animation and post production work was created by activ8-3D in the UK, and included virtual humans, time travel machines, virtual clocks, 3D-coke bottles and 3D-interactive presentations. Michal Blasko a senior executive from Coca-Cola (and one of the 3D-virtual presenters) commented on the project’s success to Simon Humphreys saying “well we were all nervous and not sure that you could pull this off in time as we gave you only three weeks, but talking to my colleagues we believe that you have delivered us the best sales conference ever! So what are going to do for us next year!”

The activ8-3D team certainly embraced Coca-Cola’s after show party which was held at The Retro Club near the Old Square in Prague. Part of festivities involved tequila shots followed by a “Bucking Bronco” competition. “Coca Cola certainly know how to throw a party, although I’m not sure about all this horseplay!” commented activ8-3D’s creative director, Paul Andrews.

Mr Humphreys added, “Despite working 18 hours a day for nearly 3 weeks to pull this off, the whole project was a huge success and our creative team is already busy working on new innovative 3D-ideas for Coca Cola’s next event in 2010. It was a great experience for us all here at activ8-3D and just goes to show that we can execute fast turnarounds for even the biggest brands.”

Activ8-3D make virtual waves with ANIMOTION LIVE system

Holographic communications agency activ8-3D are collaborating in a joint venture between PSP and writemedia by launching a brand new motion capture system which uses life-size interactive
3D-characters in live stage settings such as events, product launches or shows.

Utilising the 3D-holoshow system and their magic 3D-holofilm, activ8-3D have created an amazing
3D display system that brings fully mobile, virtual characters to life, and provides the audience with live 3D-interaction that will leave people wondering whether they are in the real or virtual world.

Simon Humphreys, activ8-3D’s executive director said, “This really is an exciting development in holographic display, and offers our clients a brand new 3D-system that looks set to revolutionise the live event marketplace. The 3D-interactive system is targeted at events, shows, exhibitions as well as the film and computer games industries. The 3D-interactive system operates in real time, and in 360 degrees to capture every nuance of body movement.”

The system is set to pave the way at live events, due to the sheer mileage of what the system has to offer to clients. The revolution in 3D holographic display means that at sporting events, live virtual mascots, could be projected onto large screens and could interact with the crowd, or virtual presenters could entertain the audience at conferences or perhaps a company gala dinner, the virtual characters could even be used to meet and greet your guests.

David Woodcock from Animotion Live, added, “The system has already been successfully used at an event at the IMAX cinema in central London with Apple Macintosh co-founder Steve Wozniak, who was interviewed by a virtual humanoid! and we have very high hopes for our cooperation with activ8-3D and the JV of the 3D Animotion Live system. The technology really is cutting-edge and companies seeking to give their clients the wow factor can now stop searching - the wow factor is the here and it’s live”

Video, film production and computer games can also utilise Animotion Live, down to the fact that because there is no time lag and all of the motion elements are captured in real-time, the post-production pipeline, which was traditionally a very expensive and time-consuming process - is virtually eliminated.

This eliminates lip-sync issues and provides full facial expressions and movement, making the holographic display opportunities endless.

Paul Andrews, creative director at activ8-3D, said, “Animotion Live uses the very latest in 3D animation software to produce stunning results, including real time lighting and shadow dynamics. The system also works with all the leading 3D applications, so it is possible to import existing 3D animations. A portfolio of stock characters are available, or bespoke characters can be specifically designed by the in-house team, ideal if you have ideas in mind, but require something a little different for an industry event or company meeting.”

Animotion’s David Woodcock added, “The product has been in development for over a year and the results we are achieving are exceptional. Although motion capture has been around for a while, we have really pushed the boundaries in terms of making all the elements work seamlessly together in real time.

“We have produced a robust, durable accurate and reliable system that provides a complete solution for the live events production world. This new technology has a real wow factor and certainly creates a buzz around events. Audiences are stunned, as they initially find it difficult to comprehend a virtual character interacting with them.

“With event budgets being made to work harder than ever, Animotion Live offers an alternative to hiring an expensive celebrity to host an event. A virtual host can offer a more cost effective option, whilst adding significantly to the dramatic impact.”

activ8-3D Launch New 3D-Holocube Technology

Holographic communications agency activ8-3D has unveiled a revolutionary new technology to their portfolio, the 3D-holocube. The 3D-holocube is a unique departure from traditional digital signage, creating striking 3D video holograms in under 10 seconds at the touch of a single button.
The ground breaking technology behind the 3D-holocube seamlessly integrates a mini 3D holographic system with 3D video holograms. Rather than watching a conventional 2D video on a flat screen, the technical wizardry gives birth to life-size free form objects, blending 2D and 3D images in the same physical space.

A 3D-optical illusion, the 3D-holocube is being tipped as a brand new advertising medium, the perfect foil to wow crowds desensitised to more traditional marketing and exhibition displays. Simon Humphrey’s, activ8-3D’s executive director said, “Consumers are increasingly switching off from traditional media so presenting your message in a new format means it will really stand out from the crowd.

The 3D-holocube like all holograms, is based on and old Victorian theatre trick called Pepper’s Ghost updated with a very contemporary twist. The traditional trick involved projecting images onto glass. With 3D holographic technology, the glass is replaced with a special 3D-holofilm. The smoke and mirrors of old give way to ultra-bright LCD and plasma screens, giving the appearance of HD images floating in space.

Bright, sharp and clearly visible in daylight conditions, 3D-video holograms created using the 3D-holocube draw large crowds, amazed at the effects produced. The London-based firm has already supplied the 3D-holocube technology to a number of companies across the globe and there are enquiries coming in everyday about this exciting product. Its eye-catching holograms are proving popular with retailers struggling to offset the credit crunch and draw consumer attention to their products and serves. 3D-holocube can be used at the entrance of stores, in supermarkets and on-site at exhibitions, the holographic applications are limited only by the imagination.

Paul Andrews, creative director at activ8-3D added, “The 3D-holocube and our other holographic technology can be packaged to provide a cutting edge 3D-display solution. We are currently in the launch stage of a new 3D display system called Animotion Live which uses the very latest motion capture technology to give holograms a voice. You can talk to the hologram and receive an answer back. Along with the3D-holocube, this could totally change the face of display advertising and retail, offering up the possibility for virtual shop assistants and hologram characters that interact with the audience at exhibitions, theme parks or corporate events.”

Founded in 2006,activ8-3d builds on almost two decades worth of experience in 3D and holographic technology and applications field. It has worked on projects for blue chip firms and household names from around the globe in territories including Europe, America, Asia and the Middle East. The diverse range of activ8-3D products and services are offered as a “one-stop-shop” solution which includes AutoCAD plans, installation of the 3D-system and content creation. Activ8-3D also offers consultancy and works in collaboration with many event and advertising agencies.
